Well, I traveled to and from Rock Island, Illinois today to watch our football team play and lose in the first round of the state playoffs. Bummer. Our season ended this year at 5-5. We left at 8:30 this morning and by 12:15, we were at a Taco Bell about 10 blocks from Augustana College's football stadium. There were 3 of us travling together (me, my friend Melissa who loves Triad football as much as me, and one of our former students who graduated last year) and we didn't make a single stop from where we started to Taco Bell! After we ate, we went to the Augustana/North Central football game for about an hour to watch another former Triad student play. Then we headed to Rock Island High School to watch our Knights. The stadium there was pretty darn huge! There were many Triad fans there, which was nice to see. We didn't play very well though and lost the game 49-17. It's always hard for me to watch the team do "we love football" (a chant developed by our team about 5 years ago) for the very last time of their season after their final loss, especially thinking about the seniors in the bunch who won't ever play football as a Triad Knight again. Even when they know it's the end, they still do it. On the way home, it was just me and Melissa chatting about everything under the sun while we listened to the radio. We stopped once in Galesburg for gas and then in Morton for dinner. We got home just after 10pm.
So now we move on to basketball.....

You were THAT close to us, and didn't stop??? You had to go within a mile of our house on I-74. Sorry to hear about Triad..but, how about those Mater Dei guys!!!!
Yes, Dan, we were and yes, I thought about you guys. I saw an area along the interstate that looked like it could have been "your area." I even checked my phone to see if I had your number saved but I don't. I'll have to put it in there. We were kinda on a time crunch and on the way home, it was getting late. I swear I heard a voice on the radio that I thought was you. But the broadcast turned out to be an Illini football game and as far as I know, you don't announce those. Right? And congrats on your Knights' win yesterday! I wish success for ANY TEAM from "downstate" (I soooo hate that phrase!)!
I do a lot of commercials, so you probably did hear me. It is our station that carries the Illini games here in Peoria. Don't know what time you came through, but, we left at about 5:00 to go pick up my brother and his wife to go out to dinner ourselves. "Hi" to Bruce, and B1 and B2. See you at Amy's wedding, if not before sometime.
Bulldogs girl here - Class of 1986! :)
As in a HIGHLAND Bulldog? Oh no! I too was class of 1986. Check out my post from Oct. 5 called "Friday Night Lights." Looking at your blog, I think we have some things in common. Did you know John McDonald, Jeff Siegrist, Jeff Buchmiller, Gordon Rogier, Tad Haller, Chris Chaney, or Mike Widman? All were a year older except Chris who was a year younger.
Yep, as in HIGHLAND Bulldog! Triad's arch enemy as I recall *evil grin*. Yes, I know all of those guys!
Ok, I just read your Oct. 5 post. Ouch!
Do you know Marty Donohoo? My friend is married to him. What is your maiden name (if you don't mind posting it...)
Maiden name was Schmitt. And Marty Donohoo sounds familiar. What is your friend's name? Do you know what John McDonald is doing now?
Yo Beth. See ya were talking about me. grogier@cisco.com. Send me an email. ~G
