Last July, I posted about visiting Illinois Amish Country. Today, the four of us took my mother-in-law for her Mother's Day "mystery trip," and we did indeed visit the Amish Country. Things were pretty much the same as they were last year. We stopped at one of the same stores I was at last year and a couple different ones. B1 and B2 thought it was interesting to see the horses and buggies as well as some of the children riding their bicycles and wearing their Amish clothing. The first picture was taken in the town of Arthur. There is an area about a block off of the main street for people to hitch their horses while they shop. The second is a picture of one of the Amish homes. It was taken outside a dry goods store (See the hitching post for the horses?). Their houses are all white (I don't know why this is) and they seem to all be HUGE. I believe this is because they don't use birth control and therefore, their families continue to grow and grow. As the family grows, it is necessary to add onto their houses again and again and again.....

Yuts, daw palagpat imo blog.
Is this Arthur? We spend a weekend set up across the street from that hitch (or one that looks identical) every year during the annual BBQ competition there.
Next time you go to that area, try to go on a tour of a Amish farm and/or eat dinner in an Amish house. We've done both and they were very instructive.
At least those horses don't take $4.00 gas!!
